FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

HOW OFTEN SHOULD A PIANO BE TUNED?
All acoustical pianos need tuning. Normally a piano in the home should be tuned twice a year. Some pianos have special needs. For example, pianos located in churches, schools or auditoriums usually need tuning more often. Tuning your piano on a regular schedule, twice a year, often results in a piano that stays well in tune for the six month period.

WHY TUNE IT IF IT ALREADY SOUNDS GOOD?
Your piano should sound good all the time, not just right after it is tuned. Follow the schedule and you'll always have a piano that it is a pleasure to play on.

WHAT EXPERIENCE DOES MARVIN WEST HAVE?
Although piano tuning is now his main work, Marvin West has well over a half a century of experience in pianos. This covers tuning, in-home repairs, restringing, regulating and rebuilding. West has been a member of The Piano Technician's Guild since 1969, but was an active piano tuner long before that. As a second generation piano man, Mr. West's father, Charlie West, began Marvin's piano education when he was a young boy. At one time, West and his father both worked for The Cable Piano Company in their Atlanta branch.

HOW SHOULD I TAKE CARE OF MY PIANO?
For tips on piano care, call right away, as this can be very important!

WHO DOES THE WORK IF I CALL FOR SERVICE?
All work, both tuning and repairing, is done by Marvin West. He does not "farm out" work to other tuners or technicians.

HOW DOES CLIMATE AFFECT MY PIANO?
The piano is mostly made of wood, felt and metal and is subject to changes in climatic conditions. You can reduce the severity of these changes by placing the piano away from windows or doors which are opened frequently. Keep it away from heating and air conditioning vents, fireplaces, and areas which receive direct sunlight. The optimal conditions for the piano are around 70 degrees Fahrenheit and 42 percent relative humidity. A climate control is also available for the instrument.
